Individual Project| RISD REPAIR: MAKING CONNECTIONS
The Balance
Break down the boundary between two different materials to create harmony in conflict.
Materials
Reed is a tall, slender-leaved plant grows in water or on marshy ground. I wanted to discuss the longevity, the possibility and the hidden value of fragile, natural material like it.
Silver, a shiny white metal valued for its decorative beauty, but it can also be dark, rustic.

Inspiration
These tube-like materials reminded me of Sheng, a traditional Chinese mouth-blown instrument consisting of vertical pipes.
Inspired by Japanese aesthetics Wabi-sabi, I wanted to enhance, even create the tears and cracks in the medium I used, rather than concealed these imperfections.
